Thirty entries into its IPA Expedition series, Guggman Haus Brewing Co. has handed the lead role to Nectaron. The 6.7% American IPA is the latest trial in the brewery's numbered run, with the New Zealand hop out front and Simcoe working underneath it.
Guggman Haus describes peach, sweet tropical fruit, and citrus coming from the Nectaron, with Simcoe contributing stonefruit and light pine. The overlap is the interesting part of the pairing. Both hops carry stone fruit, so peach arrives from two directions rather than one. Simcoe's pine then gives the tropical character a spine to sit against instead of letting it go soft.
New Zealand hops are having a moment at the brewery. The same newsletter announcing this release lists Hazy Days Route #54 as currently on tap. That one is an experimental double hazy built on Superdelic, another New Zealand variety, over a base of Simcoe and Citra.
IPA Expedition 030 is one of four new beers at Guggman Haus this week, joining a returning coffee milk stout, a pale ale trial, and a tropical sour.
