Hazy Days Route #53 Rides a Late-Harvest Nectaron Lot

Guggman Haus taps Hazy Days Route #53, a double NEIPA layering a fresh, late-harvest lot of New Zealand Nectaron hops over a Citra base for peach and citrus character.

Guggman Haus Brewing Co. has tapped Hazy Days Route #53, a double NEIPA built on a fresh, late-harvest lot of Nectaron hops from NZ Freestyle Hops, layered over a base of Citra. The brewery describes Nectaron as known for peach, sweet tropical fruit, and citrus, and says the hop shines through clearly in this batch.

At 8.2 percent ABV, it's one of two double hazy releases Guggman Haus tapped this week, each with its own one-time hop lineup as part of the ongoing Hazy Days series, where no route number is meant to repeat exactly.

Thinking about the hops and flavor profile

Late-harvest hop lots aren't quite the same as a standard picking. Leaving the crop on the bine longer tends to shift the balance of oils toward riper, softer fruit character rather than the sharper citrus-and-pine profile an earlier harvest can produce, which lines up with the peach and tropical notes Guggman Haus is highlighting here. Pairing that lot with Citra as the base, rather than something starker, keeps the two hops working in the same register instead of pulling the beer in two directions. It's a small, specific choice that's easy to miss on a menu line but shows up directly in the glass.

Hazy Days Route #53 tapped Thursday, August 13, at both Guggman Haus taproom locations.
