Mexican Lager

Mexican lager is the style every brewery seems to release exactly once a summer, like it's contractually required, and Guggman Haus is not pretending otherwise with a beer that's just called Mexican Lager.

Every brewery has its mandatory summer Mexican lager, the one that shows up like clockwork once the temperature climbs, usually named something clever involving a beach or a hammock. Guggman Haus skipped the naming exercise entirely and just called this one Mexican Lager, which at least saves everyone the trouble of pretending it's a novel idea.

The execution does the actual work here. Flaked corn keeps the body light, Motueka hops in the whirlpool add a splash of fresh lime and citrus zest instead of relying on an actual lime wedge to do that job, and Mexican lager yeast keeps the whole thing clean. At 4 percent ABV, it's built to disappear fast on a hot patio, which is really the entire point of the style - nobody is debating the complexity of a Mexican lager, they're debating whether it's cold enough. Tapping today at both taprooms alongside Everyday Vacay and Hazy Days Route #52, in cans for anyone who wants to skip the trip.

This is not a beer trying to reinvent anything, and that's fine. Sometimes the assignment really is just "make a crushable lager," and Guggman Haus turned it in on time.
