The hop bill on Corporate Ladder Brewing Company's newest IPA names Simcoe three separate times.
Growth Rate is a double dry-hopped double IPA at 7 percent ABV, out now at the Palmetto taproom. The can lists it as brewed with Citra, Simcoe Dynaboost, Simcoe, and Simcoe Hyperboost - four hop additions, three of them Simcoe in one form or another.
The repetition is the point. Dynaboost and Hyperboost are not different hop varieties but processed forms of the same one, concentrated products derived from Simcoe and designed to deliver aroma compounds in higher proportion than whole cones or standard pellets can. Building a beer from all three at once means layering the same varietal signature through different stages and extraction methods rather than assembling a flavor from several distinct hops. Simcoe on its own is known for a pine and stone fruit character with a resinous edge, and Citra, the only other name on the can, is the conventional counterweight - a brighter citrus note set against it.
That approach has become more common in double dry-hopped beers, where the second hop charge is added cold after fermentation and aroma is the whole objective. Concentrated products give a brewery a way to push intensity without dumping in enough vegetal matter to strip the beer of liquid.
Corporate Ladder did not publish tasting notes for this one. The ingredient list is the description.
Growth Rate landed in a four-beer release alongside the Hefeweizen Business As Usual, a 6.1 percent Festbier called Airing of Grievances, and the returning Dessert Station: Pumpkin Cheesecake. It is available in 16 ounce four-packs with online ordering for taproom pickup.
