Building a beer around an Old Fashioned is a bold move. Building it around a Golden Raspberry and Pecan Old Fashioned is bolder still, and I was fully prepared for this to be a mess.
It isn't. Thomas' Handsome Pucker is a Cocktail Inspired Sour at 6% ABV, bright and jammy, with a hint of pecan, oak, and bitters spice riding underneath the raspberry. It reads like a cocktail on paper and drinks like a beer that happened to read a cocktail menu for inspiration rather than trying to actually replicate one.
Fifth Ward has clearly made a habit of this, taking a familiar drink concept and running it through the sour-beer treatment without losing the plot along the way.
