Salted Caramel Pumpkin Porter Uses Roast to Cut the Sweetness

O'so Brewing's Salted Caramel Pumpkin Porter returns for fall, pairing pumpkin with a salted caramel edge in a dark, decadent seasonal pour built on a roastier base than most pumpkin beers.

O'so Brewing Company has brought back Salted Caramel Pumpkin Porter as part of this week's pumpkin lineup at its Plover, Wisconsin taphouse. The dark, roasty porter base gives the seasonal beer more room to carry sweetness than a lighter style would, and O'so leans into it, describing the beer as rich and decadent with pumpkin and salted caramel throughout.

Porter's roasted malt backbone is naturally suited to sitting alongside caramel and baking-spice pumpkin flavors, since the roast character can balance out sweetness that might otherwise read as cloying in a lighter beer - it's the same reason pumpkin pie so often gets compared to dark, malt-forward beers rather than pale ones. It's available now on tap and in cans alongside two other returning pumpkin releases, Pumpkin Cheesecake Lager and Vanilla Pumpkin Cream Ale, though the brewery says a large portion of this year's batch has already gone out to distribution, leaving a limited supply at the taphouse itself.

Salted Caramel Pumpkin Porter is available now on tap and in cans at O'so's Plover taphouse while supplies last.
