Rocket Pop Sour

A sour named directly after a red-white-and-blue popsicle is either a lazy shortcut or a dare, and Rocket Pop earns the second read by actually tasting like the thing on the wrapper.

Naming a beer after a specific, extremely recognizable popsicle is a small gamble. Either the beer tastes close enough to justify the name, or every sip becomes an argument about whether Flux Brewing oversold it. Rocket Pop Sour is back for its second summer, which is at minimum a vote of confidence from whoever kept ordering it the first time around.

The pitch is simple: a sweet and tart sour built to taste like the red-white-and-blue childhood popsicle it is named for, no elaborate ingredient list required, no origin story beyond "you loved it last summer." Sometimes the entire creative brief for a beer really is just nostalgia done well, and there is nothing wrong with a brewery that knows exactly what it is going for and does not pad the description trying to make it sound more complicated.

It is on tap now at the Scotland, Ontario taproom, timed conveniently for a long weekend that also comes with extended hours and live music. A beer this committed to one specific flavor memory does not need much more of a reason to go try it than that.
