Loutka

Loutka means marionette in Czech, and Flux leaned all the way into it: a wooden marionette prop, strings and all, standing guard over this new Czech pale lager. The people behind this one clearly had fun with it.

Flux doesn't just brew the beer, they build the whole bit around it. For their new Czech pale lager, that meant setting a wooden marionette prop next to the can for the photo, strings and all.

Loutka means marionette in Czech, and it's their tribute to that country's brewing tradition: a 10.7 degree Plato pale lager, or svetle, brewed with floor-malted Czech barley from Tchecomalt and put through traditional decoction mashing to build out a rich malt character. They rebuilt their water with reverse osmosis to mimic the soft water of Plzen, which lets the Saaz hops show their floral, herbal side without any harsh bitterness elbowing in, then gave it extended lagering time for smoothness. A little taste of Czech beer culture, brewed out in Scotland, Ontario.

Now available on tap and in cans at the brewery. Worth a visit just to see what other props they've got sitting around.
