Shapeshifter does not come in a can. Wayfinder Beer is explicit about it in the release notes: draft only. In a period when nearly everything hoppy gets packaged and put on a truck, that makes this a beer you go to rather than one that comes to you.
It is listed at 6.3% ABV on the brewery's pub menu, with notes of peach skin, kumquat, sweet grapefruit and green mango. Wayfinder describes it as juicy, tropical, citrusy and just a little untrustworthy, a beer that changes form with every sip.
The more telling detail is what it is sitting next to. Wayfinder's pub list is stacked with lagers: a French pilsner, a Bavarian-style pilsner, a Czech dark lager, a rice lager and a Festbier are all pouring at the moment. The hoppy beers are the smaller half of the board. A hazy IPA is not the house style here. Keeping it on draft only turns it into something closer to a bar's own beer than a product line: made in the quantity the room can drink, available for as long as that lasts, and then gone.
Shapeshifter is pouring now in half-liter servings at Wayfinder's Portland pub on SE 2nd Avenue.
