Apple Pie Slips Black Pepper Into the Usual Fall Spice Blend

Wild State Cider's returning Apple Pie leans on cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, and nutmeg for a cozy, spiced fall seasonal now pouring in the Duluth taproom and headed to stores soon.

Cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, and nutmeg are doing the work in Wild State Cider's Apple Pie, the Duluth, Minnesota cidery's returning fall seasonal. The 5.5% ABV cider is back on tap and in 4-packs at the taproom this week, with the brewery describing it as cozy and spiced enough to stir up the nostalgia of a pie fresh from the oven.

Apple Pie fits into Wild State's broader pitch of ciders made without added sugar and never from concentrate, so the spice blend is carrying the dessert character rather than a sweetener doing it. Black pepper alongside the more familiar cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg trio is a less common addition for an apple pie riff, giving it a bit more warmth and bite than a straightforwardly sweet version would have.
