Festbier Is a Lager Built Around the One-Liter Mug

Bolero Snort's new Festbier is a fragrant, doughy German party lager built for liter mugs, arriving ahead of the Carlstadt brewery's September 12th Oktoberfest collaboration with Brix City and Czigmeister.

There's a particular style of German lager that exists mainly to be drunk out of something enormous, and Bolero Snort Brewery's new Festbier is built for exactly that job. The Carlstadt, New Jersey brewery describes the 5% ABV German party lager as fragrant and doughy, finished with herbal hop notes, and says regulars who've already tried it have responded well - the kind of beer, in the brewery's words, "you're glad 1 Liter mugs exist for."

Festbier sits in the same family as an Oktoberfest marzen but is generally brewed lighter and more sessionable, meant for drinking by the liter across a long festival day rather than sipped slowly. Bolero Snort has built an actual festival around this one: the brewery's Oktoberfest lands September 12th in Carlstadt, a collaboration with Brix City Brewing and Czigmeister Brewing that includes two food trucks, a Brauhaus band, and a stein-hoisting competition. The brewery opened its current Meadowlands taproom in 2020 after several years contract-brewing around the tristate area, and Oktoberfest has grown into one of its bigger annual gatherings.

Festbier is available now at Bolero Snort's Carlstadt taproom, with the brewery's Oktoberfest celebration set for September 12th.
