Slacktoberfest Brings Marzen Season Forward to August

Slack Tide Brewing releases Slacktoberfest, a copper-pouring Marzen layering toasted malt with noble hops, timed to a Friday tasting-room tapping ahead of a full weekend of events at the Cape May County brewery.

Slack Tide Brewing Co. has released Slacktoberfest, the New Jersey brewery's take on the classic German Marzen. The beer layers rich, toasted malt flavor with what Slack Tide calls a delicate touch of noble hops, the traditional low-bitterness hop varieties (Hallertau, Tettnang, and similar strains) that let malt character lead in the style.

Slack Tide describes the beer as pouring a brilliant, crisp copper, with a finish the brewery calls smooth and remarkably drinkable. It comes in at 5.3 percent ABV, squarely in range for a Marzen built to be worked through a few rounds rather than sipped carefully.

Slacktoberfest became available Friday, August 14, in the Slack Tide tasting room for draft pours and six-packs, with wider distribution to follow. The release lands at the start of a busy stretch at the Clermont, NJ brewery, which has a run of pint nights, live music, and a zoo fundraiser on the calendar over the following two weekends.
