Roughhouse Brewing in San Marcos, Texas, is the kind of place where the beer is as unapologetically large as the Texas sky. Their half‑pot offerings arrive in mugs that look like they could double as swimming pools, and the brews themselves are brewed with the sort of meticulous care that makes you wonder why any other establishment would settle for anything less. They even have a foeder‑aging programme, so you can sip a ale that’s spent time lounging in massive oak barrels, picking up character faster than a rookie learns to drive stick.

The venue itself is a celebration of rustic charm, with wood‑vaulted ceilings that give the whole space a cathedral‑like reverence for malt (the architects clearly loved timber). Outside, generous seating lets you soak up the sunshine while live music and comedy shows keep the atmosphere lively, proving that great beer and good humour belong together. It’s a haven where craft and spectacle meet, and where you leave convinced that the only thing missing is a pint glass the size of a small bucket.
