Schooner Street Brewery in Waterloo, Ontario, is the product of three friends who decided that lockdown was the perfect excuse to turn a humble garage on Schooner Crescent into a proper brewing lab. Mike, Pat and Jody (who had been swapping home‑brew tips for years) slapped a Grainfather system onto the back wall, scheduled Sunday sessions and let science, camaraderie and a pinch of madness do the rest. The result is a rotating lineup of small‑batch ales and lagers that never pretends to be anything more than well‑made, drinkable beer.

The tap room feels more like a lively community club than a pretentious showcase. Pin‑ball machines clatter beside a glowing Pac‑Man cabinet, while an outdoor patio offers a view that makes you forget you’re drinking in a former garage. Wednesdays host trivia nights that actually test something useful, and weekends burst with live music and a generous spread of board games. All of this serves one purpose: to bring people together over good, honest brews, proving that great beer can rise from the most ordinary of beginnings.
