Good Folk'n Time Scales Folk'n Around's Hop Trio to a DIPA

Bunnyman already pours a 4.8 percent hazy on Citra, Simcoe and Comet. Good Folk'n Time hands those same three hops a double IPA to work with, and Comet is the one doing the unusual part.

Bunnyman Brewing already had a beer built on Citra, Simcoe and Comet. This one is what those three hops do with a bigger beer underneath them.

The Northern Virginia brewery describes Good Folk'n Time as a pale hazy double IPA, dry hopped with that trio, showing tropical fruit character alongside earthy and citrus notes. It arrives as part of the brewery's September release group.

The relationship to the rest of the lineup is not hidden. Folk'n Around is a 4.8 percent hazy pale ale pouring at both the Burke and Lorton taprooms, and the brewery's published lists give it the identical hop bill of Citra, Simcoe and Comet. Good Folk'n Time reads as the same idea at higher gravity, and the names make no secret of it.

Comet is the detail worth stopping on. Citra and Simcoe are standard equipment in American hazy brewing, and between them they supply most of the tropical and citrus register drinkers expect from the style. Comet sits outside that. It is an older American hop that fell out of commercial use for a long stretch before being picked back up, and its contribution runs grassy and herbal rather than sweet. When a brewery lists earthy notes next to tropical fruit on a beer hopped this way, that earthiness is where it tends to come from.

Bunnyman has not published an ABV for Good Folk'n Time, and it does not yet appear on the Burke or Lorton beer lists, both dated September 17. The brewery operates three Fairfax County taprooms, in Burke, Lorton and Chantilly, each running its own tap list.
