OPA is back on tap at Nita Beer, and the turnaround is short enough to be worth stating plainly. A fresh batch has just been kegged and is already pouring at the Ottawa brewery. Cans follow on Friday, September 11, after 3pm.
Nita calls it a bold, balanced IPA, and the description the brewery supplies leans on the second of those words rather more than the first. It points to a rich golden hue, subtle malt flavours, a light fruity aroma and a crisp finish.
What is notable is everything that framing leaves out. There is no haze, no stacked list of tropical fruit, no hop bill read out by name. This is a hop-forward beer described almost entirely by its color, its structure and the way it finishes, which is a quieter proposition than most of what currently carries the letters IPA. Nita's own shop keeps it just as brief, listing the beer as, simply, "Balanced IPA."
Fresh pints are pouring at the brewery now, with cans available from Friday afternoon.
