Cerebral Brewing is releasing another edition of Here Be Monsters, this one aged 37 months, just over three years, entirely in Old Forester 1910 Bourbon barrels. Unlike its Monsters series sibling releasing the same week, which blends beer from three different barrel types, this is a single-barrel expression: one bourbon character, no blending, allowed to develop on its own for over three years.
Cerebral lists tasting notes of Luxardo cherries, oatmeal raisin cookies, and scorched caramel, a profile the brewery attributes to that extended, uninterrupted time in the same wood. It's a black barleywine, a style with enough malt backbone and alcohol to actually hold its shape across years of oak contact rather than getting overwhelmed by it.
Bottles go live on Oznr starting Friday, August 14, with pickup at Cerebral's Congress Park location running through Sunday, August 30.
