One hop, one farm, one new recipe. Triumphant Ground is a double IPA built entirely around Triumph hops from Champlain Valley Hops, which is a narrower ingredient list than most double IPAs bother committing to, given how easy it would be to hedge with three or four varieties instead.
There is not much more to the pitch than that, and there does not need to be - a single-hop DIPA is either going to work because that one hop can genuinely carry a beer this size, or it is going to expose exactly where it falls short. Stoneman seems confident enough to let the label do the explaining: a lightning bolt striking a pine tree, which is about as understated as branding gets for a beer this new. It is part of the brewery's regular rotation this weekend alongside seven or eight other releases, proof that a brewery this small still finds room to experiment rather than just running the same six beers on repeat.
It is available now during Stoneman's open weekend in Colrain, and in the mixed case at Pine Hill Orchards starting the following Wednesday for anyone who misses the window. A one-hop bet is a small thing to ask a beer to prove, and this one seems willing to try.
