London Heat

A jalapeno lager sounds like a dare more than a beer. London Heat is the rare one that's actually just a light, crisp lager with a fresh pepper aroma, and almost none of the heat the name threatens.

A jalapeno lager reads like a dare before it reads like a beer, the kind of thing built to win an argument rather than get finished.

London Heat mostly skips the argument. It's a traditional American lager infused with jalapeno peppers, and Storm Stayed is upfront that it leans on the pepper's aroma rather than its punch: light body, low hops, a crisp finish, and a wonderful fresh-jalapeno smell with little actual heat to worry about. That's a fairly disciplined choice for a beer with this premise. Most breweries chasing a novelty pepper beer can't resist cranking the spice until it becomes the whole personality.

Released this week out of the London taproom, alongside London Lime Lager. A sure-fire way to kick off summer, according to the brewery, and for once that's not much of a stretch.
