Golden Empress Leans on New Zealand Whakatu and a Motueka Dry Hop

Golden Empress is the newest entry in Sacred Vice's recurring series of West Coast IPAs, built on Pilsner malt, Centennial, New Zealand Whakatu, and a heavy dry dose of Motueka.

Sacred Vice Brewing has released Golden Empress, the newest beer in what the Philadelphia brewery calls its recurring series of West Coast IPAs.

According to the brewery, the malt bill is built mostly from base Pilsner malt for light sweetness, with wheat added for foam stability and a touch of caramel malt for color. Centennial hops go into the boil for a classic piney and floral character, joined by New Zealand Whakatu for pungent fruitiness, with a large dry dose of Motueka added after fermentation for sweet, floral, and citrus-like aromas. Sacred Vice suggests pairing the beer with sesame noodles.

Golden Empress was released this week at the brewery's Berks Street Taproom.
