Hey, did you hear about the barrel? The one that started it all for American wild ale, and has spent the last fourteen months quietly turning into a beer at Off Color.

Hey, did you hear about the barrel that's been making the rounds through some of the best sour beer programs in the country? In use since 1999, pH1 is one of the original barrels Peter Bouckaert used to make La Folie, the beer that brought wild fermentation traditions from Belgium to the States in the first place. Since then it's passed through New Belgium, Russian River, Rare Barrel, and Purpose, before landing at Side Project and, fourteen months ago, showing up unannounced at Off Color's loading dock as a gift from Cory King.

Off Color put beer in it and waited. Now it's ready: an American Wild Ale, $18 for a 375ml bottle, 6% ABV. Off Color is throwing a release party for it a week from now, and Peter Bouckaert himself will be at the taproom alongside Off Color's co-founder John Laffler to mark the occasion. That's the guy who started this whole barrel's story, showing up for its latest chapter.

Release party is Friday, July 24th. After Off Color, the barrel moves on to the next brewery in line. Worth being there for this one before it heads out the door again.
