Bases Loaded

A shandy isn't usually a beer that needs much attention. Broadview's Bases Loaded, a deep-blueberry-colored one built for beating the heat, earns a bit more than usual.

A shandy is not, as a rule, a beer that asks much of you. Broadview's Bases Loaded doesn't ask much either, it just happens to look more interesting than it needs to.

It's a Blueberry Shandy, pouring a deep, almost startling blueberry color, and despite the color it stays light and easy-drinking rather than turning into something syrupy. The brewery's own pitch is straightforward: something crisp for beating the summer heat. It does that job without complications.

Broadview runs out of Broadview Heights, Ohio, and this one showed up alongside a full slate of trivia nights, FIFA watch parties, and something called a Bourbon Blowout, which suggests a brewery that doesn't take itself too seriously even when the beer looks this good.

New, on tap now.

Looks like dessert. Drinks like an afternoon you didn't plan too hard.
