Calling this beer "refreshing" undersells it about as much as calling a lighthouse "noticeable." Coastal Mass. Brewing's Yellow Submarine is an IPA built on real pineapple puree, dry hopped with Galaxy, Citra, Vic Secret, and BRU-1, and it lands at 7% ABV without once feeling like it's trying to prove that number to you.
What you actually get is ripe, juicy pineapple up front, easing into a proper hoppy finish, the kind of balance that keeps a fruited IPA from turning into dessert with a hop garnish. Some breweries chase that and miss. This one doesn't miss.
Coastal Mass. operates out of Beverly, on the Massachusetts North Shore, a stretch of coastline that has apparently convinced this brewery that beer belongs outside, near water, without much ceremony attached to it. Sunday run clubs, a tap van that turns up at events around town, that sort of operation.
It's pouring now at the brewery, with the crew also popping up at Blackburn this Saturday.
A well-built beer wearing a very silly name. I approve of both halves.
